Things to consider before you depart

Ever hooked up the van left the caravan park and got half way home and realize that you forgot to pack something up or forgot to secure something in place before you hitched the van onto your tow vehicle and departed? Well with this handy check list situations like this can be avoided.

Start with the inside of your van and work your way out;
•    Have you closed all the hatches and windows?
•    Secure the stove lid, folding doors, curtains and blinds
•    Switch off the 12 volt lights
•    Switch off the pump
•    Turn your fridge from gas to 12 volts and make sure the fridge door is locked
•    Secure any loose items in the storage compartments
•    TV fittings are secured
•    If you have a pop top or camper trailer secure the roof

Outside your van have you;
•    Pushed the step in
•    Locked the door and removed the keys from the door!
•    Turned the gas bottle off
•    Locked the stone shield
•    Remove an 240 volt power leads and stowed them in the boot
•    Jacks up
•    Jockey wheel is off
•    Caravan handbrake is off
•    Annexe is stored inside your van
•    Roll Out Awning is locked in position
•    Check the tyres

It also pays to check the tow vehicle;
•    Leveling bars are on
•    The safety chain is attached
•    Lights are connected and have been tested
•    Tyres have been checked
•    Mirrors are attached  

Once you think you are ready to depart. Drive a few meters away get out and double check you have secured everything and haven’t left any valuables behind.
